Assuming you are in reasonably good shape and are accustomed to hiking, eight miles should take you between four and six hours. Of course, this will depend on a number of factors, including the terrain, the weather, your fitness level, and how often you take breaks. If you are hiking up a steep mountain trail, for instance, it will obviously take longer than if you are strolling along a flat path. Similarly, hot or humid weather will slow you down, as will carrying a heavy backpack. If you are relatively new to hiking, or if you haven’t done it in awhile, you can expect to be on the slower end of this range. Experienced hikers, on the other hand, may be able to complete eight miles in four hours or less.
